New Phytologist<\/p>\n<h1>Abstract<\/h1>\n<div>\n<ul id=\"nph13103-list-0001\">\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\">Using the newly available genome for\u00a0<em>Eucalyptus grandis<\/em>, we sought to determine the genome-wide traits that enable this host to form mutualistic interactions with ectomycorrhizal (ECM)\u00a0<em>Pisolithus<\/em>\u00a0sp. and to determine how future predicted concentrations of atmospheric carbon dioxide (CO<sub>2<\/sub>) will affect this relationship.<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\">We analyzed the physiological and transcriptomic responses of\u00a0<em>E.\u00a0grandis<\/em>\u00a0during colonization by different\u00a0<em>Pisolithus<\/em>\u00a0sp. isolates under conditions of ambient (400\u00a0ppm) and elevated (650\u00a0ppm) CO<sub>2<\/sub>\u00a0to tease out the gene expression profiles associated with colonization status.<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\">We demonstrate that\u00a0<em>E.\u00a0grandis<\/em>\u00a0varies in its susceptibility to colonization by different\u00a0<em>Pisolithus<\/em>\u00a0isolates in a manner that is not predictable by geographic origin or the internal transcribed spacer (ITS)-based phylogeny of the fungal partner.
