Riccioni, C Robin\u2026\u00a0Annals of Forest Science<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"abstract-heading\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">Abstract<\/h2>\n<div class=\"abstract-content formatted\">\n<h3 class=\"a-plus-plus\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong class=\"a-plus-plus\"><em>\u2022 Key message<\/em><\/strong><\/h3>\n<p class=\"a-plus-plus\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong class=\"a-plus-plus\">Several aspects of the life cycle of the P\u00e9rigord black truffle have been elucidated only recently, while others remain either controversial or unstudied. In this paper, we present a revised life cycle of this fungus and highlight key aspects that have yet to be addressed or require further understanding.<\/strong><\/p>\n<h3 class=\"a-plus-plus\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u2022\u00a0<strong class=\"a-plus-plus\"><em>Context<\/em><\/strong><\/h3>\n<p class=\"a-plus-plus\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">The hypogeous sporophores of several\u00a0<em class=\"a-plus-plus\"><a class=\"reference-link webtrekk-track\" href=\"http:\/\/link.springer.com\/search?dc.title=Tuber&amp;facet-content-type=ReferenceWorkEntry&amp;sortOrder=relevance\">Tuber<\/a><\/em>\u00a0species, renowned for their aromatic and gustatory qualities, are widely commercialized. One of the most valuable species is\u00a0<em class=\"a-plus-plus\"><a class=\"reference-link webtrekk-track\" href=\"http:\/\/link.springer.com\/search?dc.title=Tuber&amp;facet-content-type=ReferenceWorkEntry&amp;sortOrder=relevance\">Tuber<\/a>\u00a0melanosporum<\/em>Vittad., the P\u00e9rigord black truffle also known as \u201cthe black diamond\u201d. However, many aspects of\u00a0<em class=\"a-plus-plus\">T. melanosporum<\/em>\u00a0life cycle remain unsolved.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"a-plus-plus\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u2022\u00a0<strong class=\"a-plus-plus\"><em>Aims<\/em><\/strong><\/h3>\n<p class=\"a-plus-plus\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">In this work, we examine past and recent findings on the life cycle of\u00a0<em class=\"a-plus-plus\">T. melanosporum<\/em>, currently regarded as a model system for\u00a0<em class=\"a-plus-plus\"><a class=\"reference-link webtrekk-track\" href=\"http:\/\/link.springer.com\/search?dc.title=Tuber&amp;facet-content-type=ReferenceWorkEntry&amp;sortOrder=relevance\">Tuber<\/a><\/em>\u00a0species, with the view of highlighting aspects of its life cycle which remain unsolved.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"a-plus-plus\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u2022\u00a0<strong class=\"a-plus-plus\"><em>Results<\/em><\/strong><\/h3>\n<p class=\"a-plus-plus\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">Several aspects of its life cycle have recently been elucidated (i.e. characterization of two mating type genes, heterothallism, prevalence of sexual reproduction on vegetative propagation, exclusion of one mating type by its opposite on ectomycorrhizas, dependency of ascocarps on their host for carbon allocation), while others remain unaddressed.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"a-plus-plus\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u2022\u00a0<strong class=\"a-plus-plus\"><em>Conclusion<\/em><\/strong><\/h3>\n<p class=\"a-plus-plus\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">Numerous additional aspects of the\u00a0<em class=\"a-plus-plus\">T. melanosporum<\/em>\u00a0life cycle remain unsolved, such as exclusion or competition mechanisms between ectomycorrhizal mating types, factors involved in ascocarp initiation, the nature of the connection linking ascocarps and mycorrhizas and atmospheric nitrogen fixation.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Certainties and uncertainties about the life cycle of the P\u00e9rigord black truffle (Tuber melanosporum\u00a0Vittad.)\u00a0F.
