Advances in Genetics<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"section-title\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">Abstract<\/h2>\n<div id=\"as0010\">\n<p id=\"sp0035\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><a title=\"Learn more about Rust Fungi\" href=\"http:\/\/www.sciencedirect.com\/topics\/immunology-and-microbiology\/rust-fungi\">Rust fungi<\/a> (Pucciniales) are the most speciose and the most complex group of plant <a title=\"Learn more about Pathogen\" href=\"http:\/\/www.sciencedirect.com\/topics\/medicine-and-dentistry\/pathogen\">pathogens<\/a>. Historically, rust taxonomy was largely influenced by <a title=\"Learn more about Host\" href=\"http:\/\/www.sciencedirect.com\/topics\/agricultural-and-biological-sciences\/host\">host<\/a> and <a title=\"Learn more about Phenotype\" href=\"http:\/\/www.sciencedirect.com\/topics\/neuroscience\/phenotype\">phenotypic characters<\/a>, which are potentially plastic. Molecular systematic studies suggest that the extant diversity of this group was largely shaped by host jumps and subsequent shifts. However, it has been challenging to reconstruct the evolutionary history for the order, especially at deeper (family-level) nodes. <a title=\"Learn more about Phylogenomics\" href=\"http:\/\/www.sciencedirect.com\/topics\/biochemistry-genetics-and-molecular-biology\/phylogenomics\">Phylogenomics<\/a> offer a potentially powerful tool to reconstruct the Pucciniales tree of life, although researchers working at this vanguard still face unprecedented challenges working with nonculturable organisms that possess some of the largest and most repetitive genomes now known in kingdom fungi.
