The Joint Research Department (In French, UMR) 1136 Tree-Microbe Interactions is part of the Laboratory of Excellence for Advanced Research on the Biology of TRee and Forest Ecosystems (ARBRE). It is under the double tutelage of INRAE and Université de Lorraine.
The present Head of the departement (DU) is Pascal FREY (DR INRAE), who is assisted by two Deputy Directors (DUAs): Claire Veneault-Fourrey (DR INRAE) and Arnaud Hecker (Prof. Université de Lorraine).

The Department is composed of four functional research teams that are under the supervision of Bénédicte Fabre, Marc Buée and Pascale Frey Klett (INRAE campus of Champenoux), Mélanie Morel-Rouhier (Université de Lorraine campus at Vandoeuvre-lès-Nancy):
- Ecogenomics of interactions team managed by Marc Buée, located on the Campus INRAE of Nancy-Lorraine at Champenoux
- Ecology of forest pathogenic fungi team managed by Bénédicte Fabre, located on the Campus INRAE of Nancy-Lorraine at Champenoux
- Tous chercheur team managed by Pascale Frey Klett, located on the Campus INRAE of Nancy-Lorraine at Champenoux
- Stress response and redox regulation team managed by Mélanie Morel-Rouhier, located on the Université de Lorraine campus (in french : Faculté des Sciences et Technologies) at Vandoeuvre-lès-Nancy
